Linda Jones trained at the Metropolitan University, London, specializing in enamelling. She began teaching wire jewellery eight years ago, and now runs creative wire workshops from her studio in Kent. She also designs and makes one-off pieces to commission. Pictures of finished projects often unclear

This is a nice looking book and the instructions for the projects may very well be good but it's unlikely I'll ever need them. The pictures of the finished projects are nice looking (as pictures) but it's often difficult to see details due to busy backgrounds, similar coloured backgrounds, and camera angles. Some of the pictures are clearer but unfortunately for me they're the projects I don't like very much. The ones I like I won't be able to make because I'm not really sure exactly what they look like.

This makes my top five list of Christian books.

The author is a respected emergency medicine doctor who did not seek out these stories, but they were told to him spontaneosly by people who had just been resuscitated from medically documented states of physical death. There are many books of this kind that are compilations of stories by people who may or may not have actually been physically dead, and often they are told months or years after the fact. I think some people dream or make up these stories to get attention or to defend preconceived ideas, but people in emergency wards who are in the midst of life and death trauma experiences are remembering things that just happened, and are not in a state of mind to make up stories. For reliable accounts of what it is like to pass beyond the veil, this is THE book.

Interesting book, covers alot of topics in the satellite realm. Unfortunately, you have to be an engineer to enjoy all the fine points, and mathematical equations. Not a bad book, but definitely not for the beginner. A good reference book, though.

This is the best Satellite Communications Reference!

I am an electronic engineer and a retired U.S. Army Sergeant Major. I have worked and taught in the civilian and military satellite communications industry for 25 years. I stumbled upon this text when I noticed it in a colleague's technical library. I was amazed at the clarity and detail with which the author explains some very complex concepts. I was equally impressed with the diverse coverage of the entire field of satellite communications from earth segment equipment analysis and link budget calculations to error correction coding techniques and space segment technology. It served to fill gaps in my knowledge and provided a very interesting refresher for seldom-used concepts. I use it as a desk reference on a daily basis in my job as a satellite communications network design engineer at a premere worldwide satellite service provider. This book covers it all and does so in fine style. Whether you are a seasoned professional or newcomer to this industry, this book is a "must-have" for your library!

Joseph Rogers was a medical officer at two different workhouses in Victorian London. At both workhouses, he encountered conditions which appalled him. He also witnessed the idleness and corruption of those who ran the workhouses, as well as their indifference and cruelty towards the people in their care.

As a result, Joseph Rogers became what would now be described as a “whistle blower”. At some risk to his own career, Rogers tried to let the Victorian public (and politicians) know what was going on inside London’s workhouses.

In his autobiography, Joseph Rogers left a vivid description of conditions inside the workhouse. SICKNESS AND CRUELTY IN THE WORKHOUSE is an edited version of his autobiography, and will appeal to anybody who is interested in a first hand account of life in a Victorian workhouse, and in the treatment of the poor in Victorian London.

From the book:

“ ... all my nurses were pauper inmates. The responsible duties they had to perform were remunerated by an amended dietary and a pint of beer. Occasionally for laying out the dead, and for other specially repulsive duties, they had a glass of gin. This was given by the master or matron, but I was expected to sanction the supply.”

“ ... the ward used for foul cases ...was in immediate proximity to the tinker's shop. It was altogether unsuitable for the reception of any human being, however degraded he might be; but it had to be used. I remember a poor wretch being admitted with frost-bitten feet, which speedily mortified, rendering the atmosphere of the ward and shop frightfully offensive. At first I was at a loss to know whom to get to go through the offensive duty of waiting on him. At last a little fellow, called Wiseman, undertook the task, the bribe being two pints of beer and some gin daily, with steaks or chops for dinner. Presently the patient was seized with tetanus, and after the most fearful sufferings died. He was followed almost immediately afterwards by poor Wiseman, who had contracted from his patient one of the most malignant forms of blood poisoning that I ever saw.”

Like visiting the workhouse of Oliver Twist

This book was a very vivid depiction of the conditions within the Brittish workhouses, and the people that lived and worked in them.
This book was written as a first hand account, by the Doctor that treated the inmates, and eventually helped to improve the basic care for the poor, this book has examples of the best and worst of life during these times.
It was worth reading, although some may find it dull.
