Wow, what can I say, this was a really brilliant idea. All the maps and charts you get from different lectures compressed into one book-- AWESOME. In fact I'm using it right now to go through hemostasis. Love the format, love the blank pages for writing. Love everything about this book. Buy it and there will be no regrets!

Great for graduate school pathophysiology

I'm using this book for a MSN (nurse practitioner) pathophysiology course, and it's great! Common disorders are "mapped" in such a fashion as to make it convenient to understand the exact, straightforward mechanisms involved in a disease process. What typically takes several pages in a conventional pathophysiology text to explain about a disorder (e.g., DIC, hyperthyroidism, complement cascade, hypersensitivity reactions, etc.) is nicely depicted (i.e., mapped) on one page, which makes the format excellent for reviewing concepts and preparing for exams. The material in this book is not "watered down" either; the material is technical and the reader should have a solid understanding of normal physiology. (This book should be used in conjunction with other pathophysiology books.) I would not recommended this text for undergraduate students; however, it is a needed resource (and great investment) for graduate level work (NP programs) and definitely for medical students. You won't be disappointed, and the price is right too!

A Story With Heart

Pure Love is a beautifully written short story that touched my heart and made me think well beyond the turning of the last page. Ms. McGriff offers a look into the heart of a little boy, strung by racism, who offers himself up as a way of healing a small town's bitter attitude. The characters could be drawn from any community and the tale is pertinent to our time. I enjoyed the passion written into each tender phrase. It was a gentle reminder for this reader of a child's innocence and enduring, forgiving nature. Hope and healing are magical, real-life experiences -- thankfully there are writers that help us to see beyond preconceived notions, selfishness and pride to recognize what is truly important.
I recommend this book to anyone wanting to feel...to change...and to understand. Written with very few words, this short story offers a heartfelt impact that I greatly appreciated.

Worth more than a price of a coffee!

I never thought such a short book could tug at my heart so much. I have never written a short story in my life but have written two four hundred page novels that aren't published. There is a real art to writing a short story and Shari seems to have mastered that art. If you want a story that will leave an impact on you then this story should do it. It's hard to write a review of this book and not give away what it is about. All I can say is I felt for the mother and she was well developed and the story really makes you think.

I like to go to a movie that has me thinking after it, and this short story did the same for me. It changed my whole idea about what the son did in the story. Well worth the read, better then the price of a coffee!

Pure Love for sure

Pure Love for sure! What a magical tale about a little boy's pure heart. Love the ethnic spice of another culture all through the story. Felt like I was there. Saw the town's people, understood the darkness of racism through the experience of the characters. What a hooking beginning! This tale is so well-written.The characters very real. Their problems definitely relevant in our society. I'm from a Latin culture myself, could relate well. What an ending too! Loved it. This writer / author definitely is a wonderful storyteller. Ready for her next one.

About the Author
Kenneth J. Campbell is associate professor of political science and international relations and director of the international relations program at the University of Delaware. He was born and raised in Philadelphia, enlisted in the Marines after high school, and served in Vietnam from 1968-1969, earning eight medals including the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged in 1970 and joined the antiwar movement, becoming a leader in Vietnam Veterans Against the War. He earned his PhD in 1989 and has taught at several universities, written many articles, and authored the book, Genocide and the Global Village (Palgrave 2001).

to this cycle of deception and quagmire. In doing so

he does not entirely reject the necessity of wars:

only those without legitimate purpose and clear-cut

strategy.

I did not know of Kenneth Campbell but I do now. This is by far one of the clearest and most concise treatments of the subject. I found almost all of my questions anticipated and fully answered. I'm sure I'll be re-reading the book many more times.

Outstanding, emminently readable and well researched...a must read.

There are indeed some hard lessons of war. Professor Campbell has thoroughly analyzed the reasons for America's slow slide into the debacle of Vietnam and compared that situation to the current situation in Iraq. In both cases, there were solid reasons for the end result. In spite of all attempts to portray them as different, they are in essence, very similar.

In many respects, my experiences during the Vietnam War were similar to the author's. I was an F4 Phantom II fighter pilot at Ubon, Thailand at the same period of time. Although most of my missions were flown over North Vietnam and Laos, I flew strikes against Khe Sanh at the height of that battle. At the start of the war, I was a "true believer" in the cause and was most eager to participate. It's hard to give up ideas you've held onto so tenaciously for many years, but over time, I came to the belief that our involvement in Vietnam was a tragic strategic mistake. My recent book, Phantom Reflections: The Education of an American Fighter Pilot in Vietnam was my version of how those deeply held beliefs changed significantly over time.

At the start of the Iraq War, I had grave reservations about the wisdom of our proposed course of action for many of the same reasons I thought our Vietnam adventure was ill advised. This book does an excellent job of comparing the two situations and hopefully, will generate some significant discussions among those in a position to influence policy. Well done!

About the Author
Jeremy McCarter wrote cultural criticism for New York magazine and Newsweek before spending five years on the artistic staff of the Public Theater, where he created, directed, and produced the Public Forum series. He served on the jury of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and is writing a book about young American radicals during World War One. He lives in Chicago.

Lin-Manuel Miranda (Book, Music, and Lyrics/Alexander Hamilton) is the Tony and Grammy award-winning composer-lyricist-star of Broadway's In the Heights--winner of four 2008 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Orchestrations, and Best Choreography with Miranda receiving the award for Best Score. Additionally, he is the co-composer and co-lyricist of Broadway's Tony-nominated Bring It On: The Musical and provided Spanish translations for the 2009 Broadway revival of West Side Story. Miranda, along with Tom Kitt, won the 2014 Creative Arts Emmy for Best Original Music and Lyrics for their work on the 67th Annual Tony Awards. In 2015, Miranda was named as a Fellow of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. He lives with his family in New York City.

How lucky we are to be alive right now

Let's just accept it...when Lin-Manuel Miranda does something, he does it right, all the way, and maybe better than anyone else.

I'm fortunate enough to have seen "Hamilton" twice. I've read the Chernow biography, listened to the cast recording non-stop (ha) since September, and been an avid follower of Lin's tweets, Facebook posts, interviews, #Ham4Ham shows, and Genius annotations. I've been a musical theatre geek for five decades and have never felt this excitement about any show (with the possible exception of A Chorus Line). So when I heard months ago that Lin and former New York magazine drama critic Jeremy McCarter were putting together a book about the creation of "Hamilton," I pre-ordered my copy and started counting the days. Now it's here, and.... wow. Just wow.

Given the show's deserved status as a cultural phenomenon that will be playing to sold-out houses for years, it would have been easy to just throw together a "behind-the-scenes" book with a few interviews, toss in some publicity stills, and have a guaranteed best-seller. This "Hamiltome" couldn't be further from that. Among other delights, it includes: the full libretto of this sung-through (and rapped-through) show, with extensive annotations from LMM that give new insights, meaning, and historical context to the words that you might already know by heart; more than 30 essays about the cast members, the production team, the creative process, and the facts of Hamilton's life; copies of relevant historical documents referenced in the show; pages from LMM's notebooks with early drafts and outlines; and a stunningly beautiful array of production photographs, cast portraits, and backstage candids. And all of this is thoughtfully organized and packaged in a beautifully bound volume with ivory deckle-edged paper - a book like books used to be. (Trust me, this is one book you don't want to read on Kindle; it's actually a sensory experience to hold it and turn the pages.)

As McCarter notes in the Introduction, the title "Hamilton - The Revolution" has two meanings. There is the American Revolution that is brought to life in this show, and there is the revolution of the show itself - "a musical that changes the way that Broadway sounds, that alters who gets to tell the story of our founding, that lets us glimpse the new, more diverse America rushing our way." Do what you can to see "Hamilton," either on Broadway or when it comes to your town. It's unlike anything else. Until then, this book and the original cast recording will get you as close as possible to an orchestra seat at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

A stunning creation, but I knew that before I even saw it...

This book is a thing of beauty! I ordered it early and it - literally - just arrived at my front door. Giddy with excitement, I pulled back the packaging tab and inside was this glorious tome. The design is exquisite, the words flow as beautifully as the pictures from page to page: lyrics, insights and anecdotes galore - nothing has been overlooked. To be truthful, I came back to Amazon to order another as a gift, but there don't seem to be any available. So glad I ordered early! Looking forward to enveloping myself in this Hamilton word and pictures story, that is until I actually get to see the show... A girl can dream :-)

Edited to add: and the dream is almost a reality... Used this gorgeous book to deliver surprise tickets to my niece who turned 18 today. I'm in New York and tonight's the night! AND, Miranda wins the Pulitzer on the same day. It's been a bit of a day!!!

Don't buy the Kindle version. It is not in Kindle format; it's just photocopies of double columned pages that doesn't fit the screen and is very hard to read. You have to manually enlarge each page separately if you want to read it.
