The subject matter of this work runs the gambit from becoming a teacher through student teaching, the first year of teaching, and ongoing professional development. The subject matter deals not only with the topic of physics teaching, but also teacher needs and student difficulties. Topics range from teaching philosophies to scientific epistemology, from levels of inquiry to scientific reasoning, from classroom management to instructional technology, from inquiry-oriented instruction to assessing and evaluating, and from school students to school settings. While the topics included in these three volumes are numerous and varied, all are treated in considerable depth. Each volume is based upon both general education and physics education research, and addresses national standards.


These volumes were written by a father-daughter team. Carl J. Wenning was director of the Physics Teacher Education program at Illinois State University (1994-2008); Rebecca E. It begins when our group of preppers flee Phoenix, Arizona, in route to their ranch in Prescott, in the wake of an EMP that wipes out all power, transportation, and telecommunications networks. Once there, they hunker down until the threat of violence forces them to defend themselves and their neighbors. In a series of battles, culminating with and attack on the town by over 200 gang members, they manage to survive the first month following the EMP.

integrated story gives excellent perspective to the prepper adventure

Reading the 3 original books in a complete, integrated story gives excellent perspective to the prepper adventure, from conception to implementation.
I really enjoy the way Bobby Andrews shows his ability to keep the story line moving while developing the characters in ways the reader can relate to them as real people with human strengths and weaknesses.
If you have read any of the three original books, and especially if you haven't yet read them all, this omnibus version is an excellent way to capture the thrust of the challenges faced by preppers -- particularly when their plans must be tested in the face of a real emergency.
All in all, an informative read, as well as good entertainment!

Awesome

I've enjoyed this series. I'm always eager to get to the next one to "drop back into" the lives of the characters whom I feel so familiar with. They seem like friends and family. This one was great, but short compared to the others. I was disappointed it had to end. Looking forward to see what happens next to my "friends".

This series is second or third only to such titles as "Tipping the Velvet,"and "Patience & Sarah." There are many wonderful characters, including the two principal protagonists, Ryan and Jamie, whose adventures, over time, are worth reading about. I recommend reading all 18 of the installments completed thus far, as well as those still to be written.

The Place to Begin for Bach (or any Classical Music)

Let me start with an embarrassing admission. I've been playing piano for nearly thirty years. I'm intermediate. I can tackle some intermediate/advanced material, like Michael Nyman's pieces from The Piano. But when I took lessons years ago (only four years), I never took scales or classical music seriously. Thus, I can play pop rock, soundtrack music, and certain expressive classical pieces, but solid, finger-strengthening, mind-puzzling classical pieces I avoided.

Now, at thirty-eight, I'm starting over, and I'm embarrassed to say that I really need to practice these pieces! They make my mind work. I need to concentrate on fingering. I'm proud to be humbled because I'd love to work my way up to playing Bach inventions, variations, preludes and stuff, but I never had the background or training. These simple pieces, designed for young pupils, are great for old or young. They are "songs" in their own right, so you won't be bored. And they subtly introduce all matters of technique (stuff that I never got or never took seriously). I cannot recommend more highly this "First Lessons" book as a place to begin. Once you make it through this book (both Book 1 and Book 2), you'll be ready to tackle more challenging pieces found elsewhere.

After years of fiddling with difficult sonatas and other random pieces I realized I was getting nowhere fast with the piano. Working off of some basic skills aquired from a year of piano in the second grade and 7 years of cello in school orchestra, I knew I could easily teach myself if given the right material to build on. After much searching I came across First Lessons in Bach and never looked back! The first few pieces were just at my level and were short and easy repertoire builders. Its been 3-4 months and I have already memorized the first of two books, playing memorized pieces with ease and joy! All songs are short, sweet, and full of musical wisdom. This book has changed my entire approach to the piano.
