A good book about biomechanic applications + esthetics for ortho residents. e.g application of intrusion arch and preventing it's side effects, fixed functional appliances, space closing mechanics, facemask therapy, skeletal anchorage are some chapters existing in this book

It's a great book. I recommend it to Orthoresidents. Although parts of the information is repeated in other major texts, it still has many things to offer. I also enjoyed reading the chapters on esthetics. Every orthodontist should own this book

This review of Anders' book appeared in the October, 1997 edition of Choice Magazine: "In the definitive work on electric current ratings of cables, Anders, a research engineer at Ontario Hydro who has worked in this field for more than 20 years, puts together the latest advances in cable technology as well as information from the latest integrated electronic components standards to produce a very technically detailed work on this narrow topic. There are 12 chapters organized in three parts; each chapter has many useful references and is filled with equations and derivations. The basis for all cable ratings is heat production; as such, Anders discusses how the heat is produced and how to calcualte the resulting cable temperature in the first part of the book, "Modeling." The second part, "Evaluation of Parameters," shows how to calculate the electrical and thermal parameters of a cable needed for calculations presented in the first part. The final portion, "Advanced Topics, " covers special situations and numerical methods. This is an updated and more detailed book than B.M. Weedy's Thermal Design of Underground Systems (1988). Even the layman can understand it

With 2 Ph.D.'s in his hip pocket and many scholarly writings to his name, William Lane Craig could go through life as a pompous ivory tower dweller. Instead, Craig has made himself available to the common man. From the information he provided Strobel in his layperson works to works like Hard Questions, Craig is understandable for any Christian willing to hear. This is a simple, 8-chapter book that hits issues like doubt, unanswerer prayer, and suffering and evil that would be a benefit to anyone struggling with these issues. The book is not meant to be comprehensive, and certainly with only 8 topics, there is much left out of the book. But what is here is very concise and straightforward. I don't agree with Craig every step of the way, though I understand the process of his thinking. (If you have ever heard him debate, from atheists to Muslims, you would understand why it would be intimidating to disagree with him to his face!) Powerful and Scholarly

The only reason that I haven't given this book 5 stars is because I am working under the assumption that any man-made work can be improved.

However, Craig has outdone himself with this book. Much of his earlier writing contains the same concise logic and strong argumentation, but "Hard Questions, Real Answers" accomplishes this in language anyone can understand. Perhaps this is the book's greatest strength, it does not sacrifice intellectual reasoning and Craig's ability to analyze problems from a variety of perspectives, for popular approval. I mean, it is one thing to write on the relationship of God to Time or to defend the physical resurrection of Jesus; but it is another to tackle the most complex and volatile social issues from a standpoint that is both Christian and scholarly.

Also, this book does not deal merely with 'Christian' problems. The chapters probe the depths of the modern human struggle. The chapter on failure is extremely poignant and insightful in its analysis of how one should react to and come back from personal disappointments and tragedies.

Ultimately, this book is not only a great read, it is an excellent tool for evangelism and discipleship in our postmodern world.

Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover; Take a Look at Its Author First

"Don't judge a book by its cover." Everyone has heard that phrase a few times in their life, right? Well, this book -- which upon first sight appears to be a soft evangelical text for teenagers, ala those found in your local Christian book store -- is actually very deep in its thought, and thorough with every area it covers. That is to be expected from Dr. William Lane Craig.

Craig addresses all eight subjects covered in "Hard Questions, Real Answers" very well (the two chapters on the 'problem of evil' were simply top-notch). Contrary to another reviewer who expressed a somewhat incoherent disagreement with Craig's chapter on homosexuality, I believe Craig tackled homosexuality (which is a very difficult topic in the first place) with insight, and showed none of the alleged ignorance.

He also tells of his own personal experiences in several chapters (e.g., the conversion of his two parents nearing the end of his father's life, and how his first attempt at getting a Doctorate in theology failed, despite prayer). Besides merely illustrating a topic, personal sories such as these let the reader know that Craig has experienced and is hence familiar with at least most of the subjects he writes about in his book.

In conclusion of a brief review, this is not typically the type of book one would expect from Dr. Craig, the author of such titles as "The Kalam Cosmological Argument" and "Atheism, Theism, and Big Bang Cosmology". But it is a good read nonetheless for insightful answers to a few specific (but very significant) questions.

sweet board book- touching while also bright and interesting for kids

This rather chunky board book (there are other editions) is very sweet!

Dora the hen is very proud of her first clutch of eggs. Then, as she visits friends in the barnyard, she wonders if her eggs are so special after all. All the other lively animal babies seem so special, versus her still round eggs. At the end of the book her eggs hatch into adorable chicks, and she feels her babies are the BEST.

The only goofy aspect of this book is that, of course, broody hens must stay "setting" on their eggs to keep them warm, with just a brief break each day. It might have been nice to incorporate that into the story, but since this book is for toddlers, few people will care. :)

A nice book which teaches that animals have feelings, too. Adorable illustrations parents and children will enjoy.

Very Cute book! We already owned the book called "Dora's Chicks". So when I seen there was a Dora's Eggs I had to purchase it. My 3 year old daughter has me read both books at least once a day! She loves the repetition in both books. After only 4 or 5 reads she can actually read them herself. Awesome Read.

My daughter loved this sweet story when she was a preschooler. I just bought a copy for my niece's baby shower, and when my now-11-year-old saw it she got all nostalgic.

The storyline lends itself well to those mothers that have struggled with infertility.

Kim Lewis has written three other books set on a Northumberland sheep farm, "Emma's Lamb", "First Snow" and "The Shepherd Boy" which was shortlisted for the 1991 Kate Greenaway Medal.

This book was enjoyable, but nothing special. It was almost a bit sad. As a dog owner and teacher I didn't see any value in this book as an educational tool or overly enjoyable storyline.

Be a Professional

The Profession of Dietetics: A Team Approach is essential for a dietetics major. This is not your typical textbook with pages and pages of information that you will be tested on later. This textbook shows you all of your options when you are entering into a career in nutrition and dietetics and also how to achieve your career. The beginning of the book starts out with the history of dietetics which provides a lot of valuable information such as a quote from Babylonian stone tablets, "If a man has pain inside, food and drink coming back to his mouth...let him refrain from eating onions for three days." This writing was from around 2500 B.C. and this is the first known written dietary recommendation. As a living organism we live off of food and we need to know the adequate amounts of everything that we intake. The book’s first chapter describes how food and health have always directly correlated throughout history. Although this is true the profession of dietetics has progressed rapidly in the past 100 years. I liked that the book used evidence of prenatal dietary prescription from the bible. The book shows you a profile of a professional including their background and answers many of the questions that may arise. It also includes suggested activities, selected websites, suggested readings, and references that I have found to be very helpful.
This book is very easy to read, it is as if the author is in your head. Once a question arises after reading a section it seems that it is the title or theme of the next section. So therefore your questions are answered immediately. Now that may not be the case for everyone but this was my experience. The layout of the chapters flow very well. The authors use of titles and clearly defined subtitles help organize all of your thoughts. Lots of graphs, pictures, and data to look at! Personally those are the best pages to me because even though you are reading does not mean you need to look at word after word for hundreds of pages. That is why I prefer this textbook over Advanced Nutrition and Human Metabolism by Sareen S. Gropper.
The book is called a team approach because that is what they describe dietetics as. This is referring to having physicians and dietitians work together for the health of a patient. It describes different ways you are able to achieve your goal such as showing the importance of communicating. It tells you the path to success in dietetics such as education and training, supervised practice experience, credentials, and joining professional associations. All and all, this is my favorite textbook I have because it is answering my questions I have about my future and enlightening me in what I need to do to get where I want to go.

Thinking in LEGO -- where to find those pesky parts

There are hundreds of models in these books and, unless you've got a massive storehouse of LEGO Technic parts in your 10,000 square foot basement, you may not have all of the parts you need in order to build a particular model.

Cookbook vs. Idea Book (And what about LEGO pieces?)

I've had all three of Isogawa's Technic Idea books for a while now. After reading some of the reviews and comments here, I felt compelled to contribute some information to this discussion. The point I want to make is that these books are *Idea Books*, not *cookbooks*. You would have guessed that from the book title, but reading through the reviews here, it appears that this isn't obvious, so let me explain.

But before I do, in Mr. Isogawa's own words: "This book is full of little seeds for ideas. It is you who will cultivate these seeds so they will grow into wonderful masterpieces." This means that this book is full of ideas, not ready made recipes that you would find in a cookbook. There's no list of ingredients, and also no step-by-step instructions to make everything. If you want full instructions, this may not be the right book for you.

This book has numerous examples that show the essential principles of building LEGO vehicles. It also shows how you can use LEGO motors to make your vehicles move. And here's where "all those expensive rare components" come in. Truth is, you really don't need all these pieces.

The best example is the use of motors. Pages 4-17 show you many working examples of motor powered vehicles. All of these vehicles do the same: move when you switch on the motor, so you really need to build only one of them. Now, all these vehicles illustrated on these pages use *6 different types* of LEGO motors (to be clear, only one motor per vehicle). The author has done this so that literally *anyone with any LEGO motor* can build this little car.

So you really need just one motor. And once you've followed Mr. Isogawa's suggestions on how to mount your particular motor on a (any) LEGO construction, you're ready to add this motor to all of the other special vehicles in this book - even if it doesn't picture your motor. All motors do the same. Just plug and play.

Clearly the same goes for wheels. Every wheel will work. And if your wheels are too big to fit the example car, just make the car bigger. After all, that's the point of this book: inspire you to build your own creations.

While the author has kindly provided a parts list that show the pieces used in this book, I actually do not recommend to buy pieces based on this list. Rather, I would suggest that you buy one of the bigger LEGO Technic Sets, especially one with at least one motor. That's much more pieces for your money, plus you can build an awesome truck or bulldozer when you're done building wheeled wonders.

And instead of going to Bricklink to hunt down rare pieces, search for "Peeron", which is a site that shows which pieces can be found in each LEGO set. Just enter the part number of the LEGO set and find what's in it. You can still buy that great looking truck, but be sure to use this site to check that it includes some gears, wheels and a motor so you're good to go to build the vehicles in this book.

And as with any LEGO related product, a child may need a little guidance. A child won't read this review, but if you read it, just build something together with your kid and show them what I said here. They'll get it, and I'm sure you'll like the LEGO experience too.

For the LEGO car builder...

Some of the most sought after LEGO sets from the past include the Technic supercars. Built to a larger scale than the usual LEGO sets, these models had many of the same functions of a real sports car, such as steering, suspension and transmissions. However, building a model of that complexity without having built one of the sets has been a major challenge. As a result, there are only a few fan supercars out there.

The LEGO Technic Idea Book: Wheeled Wonders is a book that shows builders how to make such features in LEGO fashion. Using photos and some simple diagramming, the book shows in a very clear way how to make motorized models that can drive, steer, and do other things, thanks to some gearing. Different motors are used in the models, so adapting from one type to another is not difficult.

What's amazing is that some of the models are wonderfully elegant. Using basic parts, a car can be built that hugs table edges. No computers needed! Another model uses a polarity switch for a car that reverses when it hits a wall. Ingenious solutions are throughout the book and provide inspiration for both the beginning builder and experienced Technic builder.

This is the second of the LEGO Technic Idea book trilogy, so this is only about wheeled models. Butas the others, this is a good reference and inspiration for building things with movement. Highly recommended for any builder!
