great reference for children's attitudes

There is intricate detail for each age 4-14 within this book for the child of a particular age, and then the general child's interests and disinterests at particular age. Of course age is just a number and kids could be at different stages. Exceptionally talented or disabled kids would not fall under these age ranges, or may be lacking or excelling in maturity. There is no book to solve all cases, but it is a handy reference. Chip Wood does not mention these facts in the 1997 version of this book well if at all. Also, near the end of the book on p. 167 "passage parties" could be defined better, especially for non-religious people reading the book as people who would have such parties would probably be affiliated with a religion in some way. His comment on p.170 says that children at 14 "can't live [the general school environment]" and that we have to be able to teach them how to "internalize the capacity for fidelity." To a certain point, students make their own choices in their behaviors and what they want to or can learn. Teachers should have the right attitude and aim for all these things, but this book is slightly written so that it sounds confident, maybe overconfident in such a way that it leaves the impression that teachers can easily handle these social issues, but yet potential concrete solutions are not offered for these age groups. Rather, it tells you a typical person's tendencies by age for core curriculum subjects in general, but it could use even more. It's a pretty good book if it had to be written very fast.

About the Author
John M. Kelly, who died in January 1991, was a Fellow of Trinity College Oxford (1961-65) and Professor of Roman Law and Jurisprudence at University College Dublin (1965-91). He became a Senator in 1969 and served as a Deputy from 1973 to 89. He held several posts in the Irish government, including that of Attorney-General.

Excellent primer on theory, more historical than legal.

This is a fabulous book. It begins with early concepts from ancient Greece, lays out the fundamental differences between "natural law" and "the law of the real world," then extends the history of legalistic ideas through the Roman epoc, middle ages, etc. The book identifies the bases of difference between the legal systems of the west and those of communist states, e.g., common law and code law vs. Marxist law. It fully describes the influence of Christianity on western legal thinking. There are "plots" and "sub-plots" in this book that are absolutely fascinating. Finally, it is deliciously written; for those who truely appreciate the english language.

The Omnibus editions of Prepper’s Crucible is a compilation of the first three books of the series. It begins when our group of preppers flee Phoenix, Arizona, in route to their ranch in Prescott, in the wake of an EMP that wipes out all power, transportation, and telecommunications networks. Once there, they hunker down until the threat of violence forces them to defend themselves and their neighbors. In a series of battles, culminating with and attack on the town by over 200 gang members, they manage to survive the first month following the EMP.

integrated story gives excellent perspective to the prepper adventure

Reading the 3 original books in a complete, integrated story gives excellent perspective to the prepper adventure, from conception to implementation.
I really enjoy the way Bobby Andrews shows his ability to keep the story line moving while developing the characters in ways the reader can relate to them as real people with human strengths and weaknesses.
If you have read any of the three original books, and especially if you haven't yet read them all, this omnibus version is an excellent way to capture the thrust of the challenges faced by preppers -- particularly when their plans must be tested in the face of a real emergency.
All in all, an informative read, as well as good entertainment!

It's great to have these 3 in one compilation. I had read the first book when it first came out and now have had the chance to read 2 and 3 as a single experience. Great writing!

Totally enjoyable SHTF tale. Characters that take you on a roller coaster ride right from the beginning. The author even allows the characters to grow as the story moves along.
